SEMOLINA TOMIC AND L’ANTIC TEATRE – L’ESPAI DE CREACIÓ, BARCELONA
Semolina Tomic is the resident company of L’Antic Teatre – L’Espai de Creació.
In 2003, apart from her creations, Semolina Tomic reopens L’Antic Teatre – L´Espai de Creació, engaged in the direction and programming of this theatre. It’s a place to promote and produce all those experimental artists in need of an opportunity to show their work in this city.
One of the strong points of L’Antic Teatre is that the artistic and administrative management is maintained by people who come from the same artistic world. This characteristic causes that the artist feels he’s better understood because who programs him, knows his necessities.
For Semolina Tomic the path was indeed hard, and that’s why one day she decided to choose her own direction. She did it thinking of the new generations, so that they don’t have to go through the same problems. Creation is a very hard exercise in itself and what is needed is help not obstacles.
The idea is to work as a springboard for all these young people, full of dreams and hopes. It’s important not to miss out the talents that circulate on the city.
Knowing the difficulty of depending on artistic performances and even worst, finding a place to create, L’Antic Teatre – L’Espai de Creació, recognised in the artistic world, fills a real situation of void. It’s opened to innovative and risky proposals, offering a platform outside the conventional artistic circuit: an alternative and multidisciplinary scene.
